Cryptocurrency has fascinating beginnings. Bitcoin Mass Adoption is a straightforward practical guide, and a great reference.

The Year is 2023

propaganda thinly disguised as news

The western world is mired knee-deep in turmoil. As world events play out like some dystopian horror reel, it is apparent to anyone who has bothered to look beyond the propaganda thinly disguised as news these days, that many of these events are avoidable, or worse still, choreographed and absolutely deliberate.

Politicians the world over continue to line their pockets and hoodwink us at election time, only to let their industrial and financial cronies off with every conceivable transgression once they’re in for another term.

On January 2009, in the midst of global corruption, and almost at the precise moment it was required, Bitcoin was released quietly to the world. An anonymous, decentralized, fixed supply, zero-trust, medium of exchange. Or electronic cash, as Satoshi called it.

While Bitcoin’s fate as electronic cash is not yet determined, its release, source-code-and-all to the world, paved the way for a slew of copycat cryptocurrency projects, each with their own unique selling point.

Incorruptable Money, without the need for middlemen was born.

As an undergrad computer science student in the late ’90s, I was fascinated by the paradigm of decentralised communications networks.

That was the era of the birth of the world wide web, dial-up, broadband, then media sharing apps like Napster, Kazaa et al. All these media sharing apps were based on decentralised network of interconnected nodes, with no notion of a governing node.

The next twenty or so years of my working life were dominated with writing and maintaining client-server paradigm software.

Busy maintaining software and a young family, Bitcoin’s birth and early years escaped my attention.  I first took notice of Bitcoin when it’s 2017 bull-run ended in a massive blow off top at $20k per Bitcoin, before a tumble from that euphoric market peak back down to the depths of a bear market at around $3k.

Bitcoin had my Attention

haircut

From then on, Bitcoin had my attention.  I started reading everything I could about it and was intrigued to learn that a decentralised network was at it’s heart.  When I found out about Bitcoin’s four year cycle, I began buying up crypto, a little every pay cheque, waiting for the next bull-run.

I stacked enough Sats in the next bull-run to leave my soul-sucking fintech job to follow the bull-run more closely.  Concurrently, I was getting requests from my friends to come over to learn about Bitcoin.  It seemed that a lot more people were arriving at the crypto party.

Business owners, financial advisors, accountants, restaurateurs, farmers, plumbers, people I met at the gym, even the guys at the barber shop wanted to know about Bitcoin 🙂

The End of Cash is Coming

Governments around the world including the US, the UK and the EU are now developing Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), making it is inevitable that digitial currency is here to stay.

Only a fully informed public can prevent them from using this great new technology to take a dangerous turn towards authoritarian control of the world’s population.

I feel a moral obligation to sound the alarm on this government activity.  I find it astonishing and appalling that those who represent us in government think that it’s their role is to take an authoritarian position over us.  It has always been my view that in a healthy democracy, their role should be one of representation only.

While I hope to convey the alarm on CBDCs, it is my primary hope it that all who read it get a better understanding of what is a tech-heavy, but society-changing topic.

While the main focus of the book is on practical aspects of using crypto, it also explores the of history Bitcoin along with some fun speculation too.

From the discovery of fire all the way to cryptocurrency and every technology in between is a double edged sword.  These tools are powerful, but those who wield them are often not neutral.
